WHAT CAN HIGH-SPEED INTERNET DO FOR YOU?
FREE LOCAL WORKSHOP TO TEACH ABOUT THE CHANGING ROLE OF THE INTERNET IN OUR LIVES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 20, 2011
“What can High-Speed Internet Do for You?” is the theme of a free workshop to be held in Barriere on Monday evening, June 27th, 2011. The workshop is open to all adults, parents, and school-age children who are interested in learning how to take advantage of high-speed Internet access. Local expert Kevin Bryant from Media Esteem will be presenting two workshop sessions: Family Internet Safety and Practical Internet Basics (such as how to use Internet search engines, online shopping and banking, government services, and more). Technical questions about accessing high-speed Internet can also be answered by Xplornet representatives. Event details are:
Where: Barriere Lions Club
350 Borthwick
Barriere
When: Monday, June 27th – 7 pm
The workshop series is being sponsored by Xplornet Communications Inc. Getting affordable broadband outside of towns and cities in BC is a challenge that has kept many British Columbians from enjoying its life-altering benefits. In late 2010, Xplornet began to test-market around Barriere a new service package designed especially to address the affordability gap experienced by many rural British Columbians. For a limited time, Xplornet is offering satellite broadband service with speeds up to 1.5 Mbps for $49.99 / month, with an upfront cost of just $99 and no equipment purchase cost. Historically, a high-speed satellite service package of this nature had installation and equipment costs of over $500 and a monthly fee of around $120 per month. This means Barriere-area residents, businesses and farms can now enjoy a service that’s up to 37.5 times faster than dial-up – at a price that provides real affordability – and the service doesn’t tie up a phone line like dial-up service.
“Now that Xplornet has made access to high-speed Internet affordable in the country area surrounding Barriere, we want to help residents understand how to maximize the benefits of using the Internet,” said Sean Hinds, Xplornet’s District Sales Manager for British Columbia. “We are also pleased to have the support of Media Esteem for this event. Sponsoring this free public workshop is one way in which Xplornet and Media Esteem can contribute back to the communities in which our customers live, work and play.”
